How do we shape the future when the present is uncertain?
Today, I had the incredible opportunity to facilitate a Futures Thinking workshop with the The Just Power Alliance—a group dedicated to building a world with policies and systems designed to work for everyone. The invite came from their new ED, Jennifer Choi who recognized the value of futures literacy right away!
Together, we explored how VUCA (Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity, and Ambiguity) shapes our work and used the Futures Triangle to map the forces pulling us forward, pushing us in new directions, and holding us back. Through deep conversation and collective sensemaking, we uncovered insights that will guide JPA’s strategic vision in the years ahead.

Key Takeaways:
- The future is shaped together. No one sees it alone, but through collective vision, we bring it to life.
- Foresight is not about predicting—it’s about preparing. When we explore possible futures, we expand our capacity to adapt, innovate, and lead change.
- Systemic change requires looking at the past, present, and future. The Futures Triangle helped us surface deep barriers while also identifying powerful drivers of transformation.
Grateful to the The Just Power Alliance for your vision, courage, and commitment to shaping a just and equitable future. Let’s keep pushing the boundaries of what’s possible!
